While estate planning may avoid or minimize tax consequences, it will not necessarily secure the continuity of a business after the death of an owner or key principal. Accordingly, we work with our clients to implement techniques to ensure that control of a company is passed along to appropriate parties. Since many of the closely-held businesses that we represent are family owned, the succession planning includes special attention in relation to the family business operation, the family and the business owners.
